What is the Calgary Minor Softball Umpires Association?

The Calgary Minor Softball Umpires (CMSU) are a branch of the Calgary Minor Softball Association. Our primary responsibility is to send umpires to Calgary Minor Softball league games running Monday-Thursday nights in and around the City. We also cover minor Tournaments and Provincials in and around Calgary.

Our umpires are frequently selected to represent Calgary and Alberta at:

• Alberta Summer Games
• Alberta Provincial Championships
• Western Canadian Championships
• Canadian National Championships.

How to Become a Certified Umpire

So you want to become an umpire? You've come to the right place. The Calgary Minor Softball Umpires are some of the most well-respected officials across the country due to our training and Mentorship Program. There are a few steps to start umpiring with Calgary Minor Softball Umpires:

1. Attend a Level I Certification Clinic
2. Register with Calgary Minor Softball Umpires and Receive Loaner Equipment
3. Sign up for ArbiterSports
4. Receive your Mentor and Game Assignments
5. Complete a Police Information Clearance
6. Umpire your first game (with your mentor)

Free Loaner Equipment to New Umpires!

New umpires will be provided with quality umpiring equipment from our loaner pool at no cost to them on a first come first served basis. This includes a face mask, chest protector, shin guards, ball bag, indicator and brush. We will also pay your first year fees to become a member of the Alberta Softball Umpires Association.

These benefits are valued at over $400 to the new umpire. All we ask in return is that you umpire a reasonable number of games for us, give your best to the game and have fun doing it! We will also pay you $47 for each game you umpire - even those where you have a trainer by your side. You can get into the Softball Officiating game at no cost to yourself. All we need is your time and attention.
